Trends chance Vic Venturi big odds at 50/1 for Dessie Hughes and the Irish in the Grand National 2011

Dessie Hughes goes into the 2011 Grand National double handed, although neither of his runners have been given a chance by the bookmakers or the layers on the exchanges.

That could be a mistake and Trends followers may be able to capitalise. Looking at definite trends over the past few years on the race, we can identify that previous winners in the last ten years have all filled the following criteria. They have been between 8-12 years old, have been rated 135 or above and have previously won a race over 3 miles in distance. Also throw into the mix the age old “Under 11 stone benchmark” and we have a strong set of statistics to narrow the field although it might be worth taking that weight to 11-06 now as the race is attracting classier runners and the weights spectrum is shorter than it has been.

Irish trainer Dessie Hughes runners are both currently priced at 50/1 to win the race, and with ¼ odds a place and some firms paying for the FIRST FIVE home, the qualifier may be worth some interest. In Compliance looks to be about right at that price but his other representative qualifies on the above criteria and looks value.

VIC VENTURI fits the bill and then some. He has also run over these fences before, of course in last years national when brought down at the 20th fence but racing prominently at the time. He also won over these fences on 2009 in the Becher Chase and that's valuable experience. 4th at Fairyhouse in February, not far behind The Midnight Club, Arbour Supreme and Oscar Time he has every right to be considered and at more than double the price of those he met in February, he constitutes a decent each way chance.

Recommendation: VIC VENTURI each way @50/1
