Tiger Woods is clinging on to favouritism for the 2011 US Masters despite not winning on tour since 2009. His personal problems have been well documented over the last year or so, but when it comes to this tournament punters seem to retain the belief that arguably the greatest golfer ever seen will prevail and walk away wearing his fifth green jacket.
Currently trading at 8.00 with Stan James, Ladbrokes and Coral bookmakers his recent record at Augusta certainly bares the closest inspection. Since finishing 22nd in 2004, Tiger Woods has played a further six times in this event with sixth place in 2009 being his worst finish.
The former world number one has stated recently that he will concentrate his efforts on peaking for the Majors this year rather than go all out to regain his position at the top of the world rankings and that could spell trouble for his rivals.
Tiger competes in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week and a win or even a high finish could see his odds start to tumble. Regular Betfair players may be interested in snapping up the 8.40 on offer at present with a view to laying off should he shorten before the tournament gets under way on Thursday 7th April 2011.
