The Social Network Odds On To Win In The Golden Globe Betting

The Social Network has been heavily backed into clear favourite with all bookmakers to win the Best Drama Golden Globe.

The Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 16, 2011 and the “Facebook” film is expected to be the big winner on the night. Directed by David Fincher with a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin of West Wing fame the film plots the birth and subsequent global domination of the Social Network. The movie should win at least three Golden Globes and will give a big clue to whose mantelpiece the Oscars will be placed on in February.

The main stuttering rival in the Golden Globe betting was the original favourite The Kings Speech, which is now the value in the market. This tells the story of the reluctant British King George V1 after his brother Edward abdicates the throne after falling in love with Mrs Simpson. George V1 employs a speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush to cure his stammer and to give him the confidence to lead the country during its darkest hours of the Second World War.

Colin Firth plays the King and could scoop both the Golden Globe and Oscar best actor award, the aforementioned Geoffrey Rush at 9/2 with Paddy Power is a great bet for best supporting actor.

Three other movies are on the Best Film (drama) shortlist, The Fighter is 14/1, Inception is 16/1 and Black Swan is 25/1. All are worthy of inclusion but in this category they look to be only playing to the cheap seats and we expect either The Kings Speech or The Social Network to win the Golden Globe.

Recommendation: Rush To Back Geoffrey For Best Supporting Actor And The Social Network For Best Film
