Danish beauty Caroline Wozniacki is odds-on to win the WTA final in Dubai on Sunday after despatching a gallant Jelena Jankovic in their semi final 7-5 6-3. The first set could have gone either way but Jankovic wasn’t quite able to take her chances when it mattered.
Wozniacki now faces the Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, who is not likely to be a pushover. Indeed, the head to head stats read just 3-2 in favour of Wozniacki and her Russian opponent has an aggressive game. That is the key factor really, whilst Wozniacki has a good defensive game and a more consistent style, Kuznetsova plays a more risky, aggressive game which tends to either work for her or not. Not that Wozniacki cannot play the aggressive role, telling the press after her semi-final victory;
"I just kept fighting. I actually just had a good feeling going into the match, even though I started off a little bit slower today. She started off well, and, you know, I made a few mistakes. But then I actually felt like I started to hit the ball really well. I was thinking, ‘Okay, if she wins this match, it's just too good’. I think didn't think about the score. I just felt, ‘Okay, just hit the ball. Just make her win the point. Just play aggressively. You have to dictate. If you make a mistake, fine, that's what happens. But don't just put the ball in because you're done’.
My gut feel is that this match will go to three sets and so I am going to take the 11-4 about Wozniacki winning in three and 5/1 about Kuznetsova doing the same.
