Tennis News: Federer vs Djokovic in dream final at Basle

The final of the Swiss Indoors at Basle could not be better poised, with home favourite Roger Federer due to take on the Serbian Novak Djokovic. Neither player has conceded a set en-route to the final and it is clear that both players are very comfortable on court. A year ago, the same two players contested the final and Djokovic won in 3-sets. Indeed, the Serb has won 6 of the last 13 clashes with Federer and the match is likely to be close. With this short format, a good start is essential for both players as it can be over very quickly.

Given that Basle is the birthplace of Roger Federer and he once served as a ball boy here, there is no doubt that the 3-times winner will be mighty keen to become the first 4-time champion and that in itself is almost reason to side with the world number two. Currently though, the odds are showing that Djokovic is 3.75 times the price of Federer and I don’t see that being truly reflective. Paddy Power are offering 15/8 on Djokovic and that could be the value.

In the set betting market, I am surprised to see a Federer 2-0 victory being quoted as low as 11/10. I think that poor value and a saver on Federer to win 2-1 at odds of 3/1 could be a sensible way of protecting the stake on Djokovic.

Recommendation: Djokovic to win match at 15/8 (2.875) with Paddy Power (1/3 stake on Federer 2-1 Sets 3/1 (4) Ladbrokes
