Switzerland make plenty of appeal for Group E of 2014 World Cup

World Cup 2014 Qualifying Group E looks one of the trickier sections to solve with Switzerland, Norway and Slovenia all having a similar chance according to the bookmakers odds, but we believe they may have underestimated the improvement shown by Switzerland over the last few years and have no hesitation in nominating them as a worthwhile bet at 2.75 with Ladbrokes.

Ottmar Hitzfeld took over as coach in the summer of 2008 and immediately helped them qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. Evidence of the strides that have been made under his guidance were there for all to see when in their opening fixture they defeated eventual World Cup winners Spain by a goal to nil.

A single goal defeat at the hands of Chile and a draw with Honduras meant that the Swiss failed to qualify from a difficult group, but the signs were there that their progression under Hitzfeld hadn't finished yet.

Admittedly they do look likely to fail to qualify for Euro 2012, but a recent 2-2 draw with England at Wembley was a positive result for them and there is nobody of the Three Lions quality in this group.

Norway and Slovenia are both no pushovers, but neither look like they have the scope of the Swiss and are taken to battle it out for the runners-up spot.

Recommendation: Back Switzerland at 2.75 with Ladbrokes
