Andy Murray is one game away from victory in the Shanghai Masters but victory for the Scotsman will be well guarded by the mighty Roger Federer. In the semi-finals, Federer beat the tough Novak Djokovic (7-5 6-4 ) and on the whole played to a very high standard. Murray on the other hand, made fairly short work of beating the 41st ranked Argentinian Player, Juan Monaco, despite making a bit of a meal of the first set. After a bright start, Murray struggled mid-set but Monaco failed to take his chance to bring himself back into the match, and once Murray regained his composure, Monaco crumbled quite tamely.
The final is not easy to call. Murray had the easier semi-final and that is always worth something but my tendency is still towards Federer as the more solid player. For stats fans, Andy Murray does not have a bad record in head-to-heads, being 7-5 up and 5-3 up on hardcourt. If you delve deeper though, Murray has a comparatively dismal records when the pair have met in finals and for that reason, I am going to side with Federer. Needless to say the market has got it about right so taking the best price is the call Stan James are offering 8/15. For those looking to back Murray, Boylesports are offering 9/5.
