Red Devils the value call in World Cup 2014 Group A betting
World Cup Group A sees Serbia, Croatia and Belgium pitted together in one of the more tighter looking sections according to the bookmakers early odds, yet at a stand-out 4.50 with Coral/Eurobet the Belgians could represent outstanding value.
I've little doubt that Serbia possess the best squad in this section, but continue to be perennial underachievers, with their woeful effort at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which included losses to both Ghana and Australia, evidence enough of this point.
Croatia despite their failure to make the 2010 World Cup are usually a consistent bunch, but at the time of writing are no certainties to qualify for Euro 2012 and that is from a group that consists of Greece, Israel, Georgia, Latvia and Malta.
The reason for me siding with Belgium is that they as opposed to their two nearest rivals they look like a nation on the upgrade. Coached by Georges Leekens who is in his second spell at the helm after guiding them to the 1998 World Cup finals, youth is clearly where Belgium are hanging their hats, with a golden age of new talent making the future look bright for the Red Devils.
Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and Marouane Fellaini are all household names from the Barclays Premier League that can add a wealth of experience that should blend nicely with the younger generation.
Scotland and Wales will be pleased to have avoided some of the bigger names in the draw and feel they have a chance of sneaking through what looks a wide open group, but for me it has to Belgium and what looks like a rather tasty 4.50 with Coral bookmakers.
