POET’S PLACE is evidently a late developer, having only made his debut in December. However, he has quickly made a good impression, winning his maiden at Southwell (6f) by 4l in December and followed up on his handicap bow over that C&D two months later, winning by the same margin. Obviously, this is much tougher, he’s been absent for four months and is now 10lb higher, but he couldn’t have been more impressive in winning those races and there could be more to come from the 5yo.
Definightly was only seen out three times in 2009, failing to fire on each occasion. He did, however, make a winning return following 11 months off when edging out Make My Dream at Goodwood last month and remains feasibly treated despite a 4lb rise for that victory. As such, he has to be high on any shortlist.
Invincible Force is worth considering, as he appears to be running into form and the booking of Kieren Fallon catches the eye, while Tajneed, successful at Ripon last time, has to be taken seriously and both Fullandby and Cheveton are capable of a good deal better than they have shown in two starts apiece so far this term.
