It may be Dubai in the Midlands on Friday

The weather is pretty grim down south at the moment and I am going to shun Ascot pending updated ground reports later on. With Uttoxeter planning to inspect, I think best stick to the AW and at Southwell’s early meeting, I fancy TWILIGHT ALLURE (1.00) to build on her maiden win at Wolves three weeks ago. Unexposed after 2 runs in this country and she showed plenty of dash at Wolves. Needs to transfer her form to this surface but bred to go on it and hopefully starts handicapping from a generous mark.

Class 7 handicaps are mercifully rare and many would avoid them but value often lurks within so I am going to put up IT’S DUBAI DOLLY in the 5.50 at Wolves. In her prime, this mare took up engagements in Group 2 company and won a much better handicap than this during the summer of 2009. Drawn a blank since then though and although dropping a couple of stone in the weights, she has not managed better than third in her last 19-races. Still, she meets a class & race for the first time and despite being drawn wide, I expect she will be bounced out and asked to make all. That has often been her running style over longer trips and so if she can secure the front seat, she may be able to hold them all off. Harvest Mist looks devoid of pace but is relatively new to the game and she could stay on into a place if they go hard up front.

Recommendation: Southwell 1.00 – Twilight Allure, Wolves 5.50 – It’s Dubai Dolly
