Mac’s Power can outmuscle opponents

Published on 12/06/2010 17:41

Effigy is so consistent, which in many ways is his downfall, as he rarely gets respite from the assessor. That said, he went mighty close when just failing to overhaul Satwa Laird at Chepstow last time and, with a 2lb rise for that effort appearing to be fair, he is accorded plenty of respect under ideal conditions in a race which should be run to suit. However, MAC’S POWER was better than the bare result at Newmarket last month when, denied a clear run at a crucial…

Formosina looks formidable

Published on 12/06/2010 17:40

It’s surely only a matter of time before Alfraamsey, placed in all four starts to date, gets off the mark, but he may have to settle for another minor role here, as FORMOSINA looks sure to build on his promising debut effort at Newbury last month. The Footstepsinthesand colt, who holds an entry in the Group 3 Railway Stakes in Ireland later this month, was beaten 7¼l into third behind Strong Suit and Neebras at that Berkshire venue, but shaped very well indeed,…

Tesslam looks tasty

Published on 04/06/2010 10:15

It's impossible to look beyond TESSLAM in this maiden, as this represents by far the easiest assignment that Michael Jarvis' charge has faced to date, and unless his stablemate City Ground turns out to be pretty useful, this should be akin to a penalty kick for the son of Singspiel.

Profit... on the House

Published on 04/06/2010 10:13

NINTH HOUSE, representing the bang in-form Ruth Carr stable (25 per cent strike-rate during the past two weeks), came right back to form when a neck second of 13 to Shadowtime at Beverley recently, in turn finishing nicely clear of the rest, and looks poised to go one better off the same mark here. Arizona John and Stanley Goodspeed both arrive here on the back of creditable efforts and enter calculations, but Ninth House could have most to fear from Film Festival, who looks a …

Fortuna looks a bonafide banker!

Published on 04/06/2010 10:06

It's extremely difficult to look beyond BONA FORTUNA in this handicap. Sir Mark Prescott's charge showed much improved form when routing the opposition upped in trip on his handicap/seasonal reappearance at Brighton, and duly followed up at Hamilton last night. His trainer is adept at running up a sequence of wins with this type of horse, and the Mark Of Esteem gelding is clearly a giant leap ahead of the handicapper at present. Shelfah and Astral Flower can fight out…

She's a Lady!

Published on 04/06/2010 09:44

A pretty tight affair this fillies’ handicap, but my two against the field are Anice Stellato and LADY ARTEMISIA, with the latter marginally preferred. The Montjeu filly was unraced as a two-year-old, but quickly made up into a decent middle-distance performer for Michael Bell in 2009, and was only beaten five lengths when fifth in a Group 3 race at Goodwood last summer. Her reappearance effort over C&D when beaten less than a length by Aphrodisia was highly promising, …

Robens looks as solid as a rock

Published on 04/06/2010 09:43

A competitive-looking handicap on paper, but ROBENS ROCK appeals as a horse with plenty of scope and earns a confident vote. He posted a much-improved display on his seasonal reappearance/handicap bow and first start for Mark Johnston when running out an impressive winner at Beverley nine days ago. Given that that was his first outing for seven months it’s perfect feasible to expect him to come on for the run, so a 6lb penalty shouldn’t debar him from following up…

Punters can excelebrate!

Published on 04/06/2010 09:42

EXCELEBRATION was well backed ahead of his debut at Nottingham last month and, although beaten almost eight lengths into fourth behind the winner Planet Waves, it was a highly promising effort from Marco Botti’s charge, while the form has already been franked with the fifth home that day, Roayh, scoring at Leicester subsequently. The other duo with experience look pretty limited on the evidence available, while none of the newcomers jump out on paper, so it will be…
