Dunraven Storm to unleash power at Newbury

Published on 31/12/2011 00:18

2.05 Newbury– CUE CARD has fallen from favour with many but I make him a confident selection for the Betfred Goals Galore Novice Chase at Newbury. Trainer Colin Tizzard is bullish about his stable star’s chances and he looks the class act in this field. There was no disgrace at all in his finishing second to Bob’s Worth here last time and non of his rivals look overly solid. Walkon has a history of injury and I wouldn’t be convinced he will be able to…

£23,000,000 payout voided by Betfair. Thousand Stars can land the Istabraq Festival Hurdle

Published on 29/12/2011 08:10

There were amazing scenes on Betfair yesterday as one punter left themselves open to a potential £23m payout on Voler De Vadette at Leopardstown. A three hour investigation was launched after an in running lay was placed on the favourite at odds of 29 as he crossed the line. Over £1.5m was matched at the price as he won by four and a half lengths. The lay of £21.3m, had it all been matched would have resulted in a £600m payout. Betfair voided the…

AW Racing Tips for Lingfield & Wolves

Published on 27/12/2011 23:52

12.10 Lingfield – Every race has a winner and although Adjaad and Pipers Piping are best in at the weights, there is a reason to take them on with QUERIDO. The logic being that Nathan Alison is 5-44 riding at Lingfield whilst his rivals are 0-62 collectively. A tenuous argument, perhaps, but finding the non-obvious clues is sometimes a good strategy. 1.10 Lingfield – STORM RUNNER has really found his feet of late, beating big fields twice at Kempton. Has form here …

Sharp Shoes can dance to Southwell Success

Published on 21/12/2011 21:46

SHARP SHOES looks a decent bet to land some shopping money in the 5f handicap at Southwell on Thursday (12.30). A winner of 5-races, the 4-y-o has had just 3 runs here on this surface, a trio of consecutive runs at the turn of the year yielding form figures of 245. 7 lb lower now but has been second in two of his last six so not exactly out of form. Dropping in grade today and running off his lowest mark this year, he makes plenty of appeal at a double-figure price. Half an…

Don't miss this banker bet at Ffos Las on Wednesday!

Published on 20/12/2011 18:46

The most appealing race from a punting perspective on Wednesday is the Walters UK Ltd Handicap Chase at Ffos Las (2.45), and Kaybeew is likely to be popular following his victory at this track over a slightly shorter trip last month. However, while he has to be respected, particularly with Nigel Twiston-Davies’ horses generally holding their form well, I have my doubts as to whether the six-year-old will be up to defying a 5lb rise in this Class 3 contest, while his…

Richards looking for Ned to run up Three Timer at Mussleburgh

Published on 20/12/2011 09:29

Nicky Richards will be hoping his SIMPLY NED can complete a hat-trick today as he runs in the days most valuable race, a class three handicap Hurdle at Mussleburgh at 2.20pm. Only a neck second on his bumper debut, he has won both his subsequent hurdle outings, winning by seven lengths from Civil Unrest at Kelso, then eased down even though winning by 9 lengths at Sedgfield last time out when expected to do so as 4/9 favourite. He is a better price today on his handicap bow…

Tips through the card at Plumpton

Published on 18/12/2011 23:16

I shall be rising early on Monday to pop along to Plumpton races and so the selections that will make or break my pre-Christmas week are posted below; 12.30 – Enough possibilities in the opening novice hurdle and not an easy start to the card. Of those with form, Dark And Dangerous looks the strongest option with the more exposed Hi Note looking one to field against. There are a couple of interesting newcomers though in Ministry and WEST BRIT. The latter was the best of…

A Long Walk in the Park for Bucks – A Prospect for the Ladbroke – Ascot Horse Racing Tips

Published on 17/12/2011 11:33

Paul Nichols is expected to dominate the latter part of the day at Ascot with the favourites for both the Long Walk Hurdle and the closing race on the card, The Ladbroke. Big Bucks is expected to go off the very short favourite for the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. 1.30 is the best price available on Betfair for the race, recently rename after the now retired Lough Derg. Big Bucks in now unbeaten in 13 hurdle races after winning with ease at Newbury last month on his seasonal…

It may be Dubai in the Midlands on Friday

Published on 16/12/2011 00:10

The weather is pretty grim down south at the moment and I am going to shun Ascot pending updated ground reports later on. With Uttoxeter planning to inspect, I think best stick to the AW and at Southwell’s early meeting, I fancy TWILIGHT ALLURE (1.00) to build on her maiden win at Wolves three weeks ago. Unexposed after 2 runs in this country and she showed plenty of dash at Wolves. Needs to transfer her form to this surface but bred to go on it and hopefully starts…

Prospect of steady early pace could scupper Royal Charm's chance at Exeter today

Published on 15/12/2011 08:15

There's no doubt at all that Royal Charm is the one to beat as he bids to land the Betfair Graduation Chase for the second year running at Exeter this afternoon. Always held in high regard by trainer Paul Nicholls, the French import has won all four starts at this Somerset venue, including twice over C&D. And the six-year-old was still going strongly when falling at the fourth-last on his reappearance at Sandown. However, while the son of Cadoudal is proven over this …

Time for Rupert given a winnable opportunity to get season back on track

Published on 14/12/2011 09:30

Paul Webber has put Time for Rupert into a graduation chase at Newbury today in an attempt to get a win under his belt and his season back on track. Beaten twice this term already including finishing last in last months Betfair Chase, this line up of just four is not as strong and should be a chance to gain a win. With Will Kennedy parting company with trainer Paul Webber, Time for Rupert will find someone new on his back. Dennis O’Reagen will be aboard this time and…

John Durkan Memorial Chase at Puchestown – Joncol can deny last years’ winner Tranquil Sea the Double

Published on 11/12/2011 11:50

It looks to be an excellent renewal of the John Durkan at Puchestown on Sunday. A host of really good talent lines up. Second season chasers like Rubi Light and Roi Du Mee go up against the seasoned experience of Trafford Lad and Cooldine, both Grade 1 winners in the past as well as last years’ winner of this race Tranquil Sea. Throw in double grade 1 winning Kempes and throw in double grade one winner Joncol and we have a line up to ensure a great race. Now the problem …

Cheltenham CH4 Races - Sunnyhillboy to Shine

Published on 10/12/2011 09:31

I was luck enough to have been behind TANKS FOR THAT ahead of his win on the Old Course here last month and the ease in which he demolished his 16-rivals was notable. Everything went smoothly for sure but I think this horse has more to come and the 9 lb rise does not put me off him for a follow-up in the 1.20 Cheltenham, especially with 11/2 available. There are those who prefer the flat of course and at Southwell's early meeting, JONNIE SKULL makes some appeal in the…

Morning Moment cracking value at around 7-1 in Doncaster chase

Published on 10/12/2011 00:35

All eyes will be affixed to Cheltenham on Saturday, but the best bet of the day is at Doncaster in the Bet Mobile At Victor Chandler Handicap Chase (3.20), with the lightly-weighted MORNING MOMENT outstanding value at around the 7-1 mark. The nine-year-old has few miles on the clock for a horse of his age, having had just seven starts, but he’s proved that he can mix it in competitive staying handicaps the last twice, scoring over 3m at Haydock in October prior to…

Somersby Can Command in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon

Published on 08/12/2011 08:10

Henrietta Knight sends Somersby to Huntingdon on Thursday to compete with the likes of The Nightingale, Gauvain, Mr Moonshine and Tartak for the Peterborough Chase. Seven Year Old Somersby makes his third appearance of the season after scoring at Kempton with ease at the end of October, accounting for Aiteenthitythree on the day, and then found only Master Minded too good in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot last month. He had Tartak well held in the John Smiths Melling Chase at …

A host of outsiders worth backing on Wednesday’s AW cards

Published on 06/12/2011 22:39

VIVA RONALDOis remarkably well-treated on artificial surfaces and he might be worth chancing at a price in the Lingfield 2.10. As a rule of thumb, a racehorse needs to have 7 lb in hand of his mark to win a handicap and twice in his last five turf outings, the selection has run to a mark of 93. Able to race off 79 today and so his chance is apparent on the maths at least. The issue is whether he handles this surface and he barely beat a rival in three runs last winter (one on…

Trigger the Light and Beamazed – Sunday Racing

Published on 03/12/2011 22:20

The Borders National at Kelso looks tricky enough but Welsh National entry BEAMAZED may have been laid out for this. I am not at all sure a very recent run is a positive when trying to unravel this kind of race and plenty come here very soon after their last run. The selection though has been off for 28-days, is young, unexposed and bred to stay 5-miles. This will be the 7-y-o’s fourth chase only but he has mostly jumped very well so far and he gets the nod. I had hoped to …

Simon says the Winter Hurdle goes to Seven Barrows

Published on 02/12/2011 08:01

The Winter Hurdle at Sandown, now known as the Neptune Investment Management Hurdle is run at 1.55 at Sandown today for Novices, and what a bunch we have lined up Phillip Hobbs has Fingal Bay fresh from two wins already this season and unbeaten in three outings after winning his bumper at Exeter in February. He made an excellent debut over hurdle at Chepstow, making his 9/4 odds look huge with a facile win over 2m4f. Stepped up slightly I trip and taken to Cheltenham he won…

Ice Trooper to win the final race at Wolves

Published on 30/11/2011 23:51

LUCKY DAN clearly found the 5f too sharp last time when finishing well and I am hopeful of a good showing from the 5-y-o back over 6f in the 7.00 at Wolves. Although he has a modest win record, three of his four victories have come under Franny Norton and he was successful off a similar mark in January over course and distance. Vitznau has a similar profile in that he was also finishing fast over an inadequate 5f last time and at 25/1, he also warrants a mention ICE TROOPER…

Winter Arrives as Ayr is Abandoned, It Will Be Bright at Lingfield

Published on 29/11/2011 09:27

Whilst a waterlogged track has put paid to racing in Scotland today, we still have meetings going ahead south of the border with National Hunt racing at Southwell and Aw action at Lingfield It is off to the latter we go looking for Brightness and we may have found some in the 2.50 Felbridge Handicap. ELNA BRIGHT is owned and trained by Peter Crate. She comes into the race off the back of a win over this trip a couple of weeks ago at Wolverhampton. He is capable of more on this …
