Olivier Peslier poised to land ride on Harbinger in the King George

Published on 13/07/2010 21:39

Leading French jockey Olivier Peslier could be in line to partner Harbinger in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot on July 24. A top-priced 5-2 in the ante-post betting for the prestigious Group 1 contest, Harbinger has looked an improved performer this year, winning all three starts in good style, and booked his place in the line-up for this mile-and-a-half race by landing the Hardwicke Stakes with a good deal of authority at the royal meeting last…

Coral Eclipse - Tom Queally oozing confidence on Henry Cecil's Twice Over

Published on 02/07/2010 17:44

MAWATHEEQ trainer Marcus Tregoning has expressed a desire for the rain to stay away from Esher ahead of Saturday’s big race, the Coral Eclipse. With no Sea The Stars this year, the Sheikh Hamdan owned 5-y-o looks to have a fair chance and although there is a little rain about this morning, my view would be that it will not be significant. The 6/1 available currently with Coral, Ladbrokes and Eurobet could factor in the ground worries and so might be worth taking today with …

Dolly can make off with the 1,000 Guineas lolly

Published on 19/05/2010 16:19

An intriguing renewal of the Irish 1,000 Guineas is in prospect at The Curragh on Sunday. Gile Na Greine stepped up on previous form when beaten just a neck into third in the English equivalent at Newmarket, but may struggle to confirm the placings with the sixth there, Music Show, as the latter was unfavoured by racing centre to far side in a race in which those racing up the stands’ side were favoured. However, while I don’t doubt for one moment that the…

Steinbeck can stamp his authority in colts' Classic

Published on 19/05/2010 15:04

Richard Hannon deserves to win a Classic, that’s for sure; his Dick Turpin has finished runner-up in both the English and French 2,000 Guineas already this season. In the Irish equivalent on Saturday, Hannon fields one of the leading fancies for the colts’ race at The Curragh, Canford Cliffs. The son of Tagula was third in the English version at Newmarket, less than two lengths adrift of the winner Makfi, and has to be considered a very strong contender on that…

Timepiece favourite in our 2010 Oaks betting odds

Published on 23/04/2010 11:59

As we know this game is all about opinions and although Timepiece has done little wrong so far she just doesn’t set my pulse racing when looking at the possible winner of this race. I’m not sure if she’s a little under priced because she’s trained by Henry Cecil and he has such an outstanding record with fillies or if I’ve just got it completely wrong, but either way my selection to win the Epsom Oaks is the Luca Cumani trained Seta. Kieren…

Special Duty tops our 1000 Guineas betting odds

Published on 21/04/2010 09:53

Special Duty fully deserves her place at the head of the market despite her recent defeat at Maisons-Laffitte and I would suggest a decent each way bet on the French filly. After her impressive victory in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last October she was propelled to favouritism and has stayed there ever since. Her trainer Criquette Head-Maarek had previously won that particular race twice before with Ma Biche and Ravinella both of whom followed up by winning the 1000 …

Xtension can land the 2010 2000 Guineas

Published on 21/04/2010 09:50

St Nicholas Abbey looks a worthy favourite after three impressive wins as a juvenile and with the mighty Aidan O’Brien speaking in glowing terms of his inmate I wouldn’t put anybody off backing this talented Montjeu colt. Elusive Pimpernel will be many peoples idea of the danger after an impressive victory in the Craven Stakes recently, but he was readily put in his place by St Nicholas Abbey in last seasons Racing Post Trophy so we shall look elsewhere for the…
