Holland worthy favourites to top World Cup Qualifying Group D

By Dean Goddard on 10/08/2011 14:33

Although a top quote of 1.33 from both Bet 365 and Boylesports is nothing to get excited about it would take a brave man to oppose Holland after their performance at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa where they finished runners-up to Spain.

Six wins from six in their Euro 2012 qualifying group to date shows that the men in orange have certainly not sat on their laurels since their epic 2010 journey and it will take an exceptional performance from the likes of Turkey, Romania or Hungary to cause an upset and win Group D.

With Wesley Sneijder pulling the strings in midfield and a strike force consisting of Robin Van Persie, Dirk Kuyt and Arjen Robben goals should continue to flow, however the lack of any outstanding defenders could see them drop the odd point or two away from home.

Turkey, coached by former Dutch manager Guus Hiddink look the chief threat and are often very difficult to beat at home. Whether they can challenge Holland is doubtful, but they should make decent forecast material.
