Schwartzel and Willett receive positive Wiki mentions for Joburg Open

Published on 10/01/2012 15:29

The Joburg Open kicks off on Thursday with South African Charl Schwartzel seeking a hat-trick of wins in at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. According to the Charl Schwartzel wiki he has won three times on his home soil and all of those during the month of January, which would make him a solid favourite for this weeks event. The 4.50 with Victor Chandler, Boylesports and Ladbrokes is currently the best available. Of the bigger prices on offer the 26.00…

Wiki suggests Haas could win while Simpson may struggle

Published on 04/01/2012 12:33

The 2012 US PGA Tour starts this week with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course in Hawaii. The opening event of the season will be played in Kapalua on a Par 73 course that usually yields plenty of birdies and was won last year by Jonathan Byrd. Disputing favouritism with most bookmakers is last seasons PGA Tour Money List runner-up Webb Simpson, however if a recent wiki posting on the American is to be believed he could well struggle this week.…

OLBG member highlights 40/1 winner with his wiki posting

Published on 12/12/2011 14:33

Well we knew our Golf wikis were going to help us all in our efforts to beat the bookmaker, but a 40/1 winner already is more than we could have wished for. Well done to OLBG member Gecko for posting information on Spaniard Alvaro Quiros that we hope pushed some of you into taking the very generous odds that were on offer for him to win the Dubai Golf World Championship. For anybody that is unaware of how our wikis work let me explain. On Valuechecker we cover most sports and…

Published on 23/11/2011 10:21

The Omega Mission Hills Golf World Cup kicks off during the early hours of Thursday morning with reigning champions Italy, represented by the Molinari brothers, a general 12.00 shot to defend the title they took in dramatic style back in 2009. According to a wiki recently posted in our Golf section though it's Ireland that are going to take all the beating this week and possibly wrestle the prize away from the Italians. Click on the green 'w' to the left of Ireland …

Rory McIlroy looks too short in 2011 British Open betting

Published on 13/07/2011 08:30

Rory McIlroy's victory in last month's US Open was absolutely breathtaking and make no mistake they'll be plenty more majors to come, but his current odds of around 9.00 to land the 2011 British Open represents poor value in my opinion and below I'll attempt to explain why. Looking at the last ten winners of the British Open, their age when winning the tournament ranged from 26 to 38 years old. As most of you will know links golf is completely different to the…

Can Rory McIlroy put Masters disaster behind him?

Published on 17/06/2011 21:38

Rory McIlroy shot a second round 66 to go with his opening round of 65 and in doing so managed to open up a huge lead over his rivals when play was suspended due to bad weather at around 9 o'clock on Friday evening. The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland looked like he was playing a totally different course to the rest of the field and if it wasn't for a double-bogey at his final hole the gap would have been even bigger. When play was stopped because of heavy rain…

Hunter Mahan odds look generous in our U.S. Open Golf betting

Published on 08/06/2011 10:30

The Congressional Country Club in Maryland is the setting for the 2011 U.S. Open Golf Championship and I expect Hunter Mahan to finally land his first major title, at the age of 29, on a course that looks tailor-made for his game. The U.S. Open is usually won with a score of around level par or worse and favours a golfer that can plot his way around a golf course, which is definitely a trait you would level at Hunter Mahan. Despite a rare missed cut in this event last year…

Today, Golf lost a Legend Goodnight Seve Ballesteros.

Published on 07/05/2011 08:27

It was confirmed in the early hours of Saturday 7th May that Seve Ballesteros, the five times major champion had passed away after battling a brain tumour for the past two and a half years. He was diagnosed in October 2008 but had deteriorated significantly in recent days. There is some poignancy in that The Spanish Open is currently taking place in Barcelona. This was the last competition Ballesteros won at a professional golfer. Seve arrived on the scene in 1974 turning…

Rory McIlroy odds-on to land 2011 US Masters title

Published on 10/04/2011 11:32

A steady if unspectacular round of 70 by Rory McIlroy was enough to ease him into a four shot lead as all his main rivals disappointed on a day when low scores were hard to come by. The expected charges of Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood failed to materialise with both men shooting 74 and therefore leaving themselves a mountain to climb on Sunday evening. Paddy Power offer the best price on a Rory McIlroy victory at 1.73 with Tiger Woods now available at 29.00 with Bet 365 and…

New favourite for 2011 Masters after typical Woods charge

Published on 09/04/2011 11:15

Tiger Woods rediscovered his old magic at Augusta National last night and after shooting a second round 66 now heads the bookmakers lists at a best priced 4.00 with Bet 365, Ladbrokes and Coral. As previously highlighted on Valuechecker Tiger Woods has a record second to none in the Masters and has looked on good terms with himself from the moment he drove up Magnolia Lane earlier in the week. The former world number one has now moved to within three strokes of the lead,…

Mickelson favourite in 2011 US Masters betting

Published on 04/04/2011 16:24

Phil Mickelson warmed up for the defence of his US Masters crown with an emphatic victory in the Shell Houston Open on Sunday evening and is now clear favourite with all bookmakers for the seasons first major event which starts on Thursday morning. A closing round 65, just a day after his course-record equalling 63 on Saturday saw the forty year-old not only land his first title in almost a year, but also overtake Tiger Woods in the world rankings. Ladbrokes quote of 8.00…

Betting for the 2011 US Masters gathers pace

Published on 28/03/2011 18:05

With less than a fortnight to go until the 2011 US Masters kicks off punters are starting to look for value in the outright market and it's the European's that seem to be attracting most of the money. After his win in the Arnold Palmer Invitational last night it was probably no surprise to see Scotsman Martin Laird shorten up this morning with Boylesports, Stan James and Coral bookmakers now offering a top price of 67.00 for the twenty-eight year old to land a quick…

Tiger Woods remains favourite in US Masters betting

Published on 23/03/2011 10:36

Tiger Woods is clinging on to favouritism for the 2011 US Masters despite not winning on tour since 2009. His personal problems have been well documented over the last year or so, but when it comes to this tournament punters seem to retain the belief that arguably the greatest golfer ever seen will prevail and walk away wearing his fifth green jacket. Currently trading at 8.00 with Stan James, Ladbrokes and Coral bookmakers his recent record at Augusta certainly bares the…

Martin Kaymer could become World Number One

Published on 26/10/2010 16:06

Just when Martin Kaymer thought things couldn't get any better the news arrives that either a win or a second place finish at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters on Sunday will propel him to the number one spot in World Golf, overtaking none other than Tiger Woods. In what has proved a nightmare year for Tiger, how ironic it would be if he finally lost his number one spot on Halloween. Quoted at a best priced 13/2 with Stan James to win this week, the young German has not…

Profitable Ryder Cup - now for the Alfred Dunhill Links

Published on 05/10/2010 15:06

What a week for our Golf tipsters at the 2010 Ryder Cup, with 10/1, 11/2 and 10/11 winners in various markets, so before looking at our Alfred Dunhill Links suggestions take a look at last weeks tips. Ian Poulter looks tremendous value at 10/1 to be Europe’s leading points scorer at the 2010 Ryder Cup in October and we suggest a strong each-way punt on the man from Hertfordshire. (Dead-Heat with Luke Donald) It's not often you can get odds of 11/2 for Tiger Woods…

Tiger Woods looks the value in Ryder Cup 'Top American' betting odds

Published on 28/09/2010 11:23

It's not often you can get odds of 11/2 for Tiger Woods in a twelve-runner field, but that's what Stan James are offering for the World No.1 to register the most points for team USA in the Ryder Cup this week. Admittedly Tiger doesn't boast the best record in this event over previous years, but that was usually at the end of a long-hard season where he'd been mopping up event after event and would have came into this contest with one eye on a deserved winter…

Can Ian Poulter lead Europe to Ryder Cup victory?

Published on 14/09/2010 11:14

Ian Poulter looks tremendous value at 10/1 to be Europe’s leading points scorer at the 2010 Ryder Cup in October and we suggest a strong each-way punt on the man from Hertfordshire. His record in match-play golf is outstanding, he has won both his singles matches when competing in previous Ryder Cup’s and also added this years Accenture World Matchplay title (where the top sixty-four players in the world compete) to his list of eleven professional wins. For the…

Corey Pavin announces Ryder Cup wildcard picks

Published on 08/09/2010 10:54

The only slight surprise to come from Corey Pavin’s wildcard picks was the inclusion of young Ricky Fowler who joins the more obvious choices of Tiger Woods, Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink to do battle with Europe at Celtic Manor next month. Fowler, at just 21 years of age, will be playing in the Ryder Cup just one year after representing his country in the Walker Cup and despite three second places has yet to win an event on the US tour. Tiger Woods improved form over…

Molinari brothers make Europe’s Ryder Cup team

Published on 01/09/2010 09:36

On an exciting final day at Gleneagles, Italy’s Edoardo Molinari produced the goods that not only landed him the Johnnie Walker Championship, but also one of Colin Montgomerie’s wildcard picks for the 2010 Ryder Cup. With three holes to play the gritty Italian needed to birdie them all to take the title and did so in a style that made it impossible for ‘Captain Monty’ to rule him out of a trip to Wales in October. This was his second title of the season …
