No longer the first 2-y-o race of the season and lacking the status it once held, the Brocklesby in nonetheless part of flat racing heritage and plenty of trainers like to have one ready for this race. A glance at the list of winning trainers shows Bill Turner and Richard Fahey have trained 5 of the last 10 winners between them but it is David Evans who looks to hold the aces this time around. Increasingly a prolific force in early 2-y-o races, Evans has already had two such winners, including Redair, who won at Kempton a week ago.
The first three from that race re-oppose here and Redair now concedes a penalty so I am more inclined to go with her stablemate, Adranian. Not too many clues on breeding, being by a first season sire but sure to know his job and be sharp enough. David Evans’ comments in the press on Friday were quite interesting;
"The one that won last week (Redair) obviously has the advantage of having won a race, so with her fillies' allowance she must have a good chance. If she wasn't in then I would fancy Adranian to win. I think it's my best ever opportunity of winning this race."
Adranian is currently weak at 14/1 but there looks to be enough positives so that could be a price worth taking.
Connections are not especially confident about the current second favourite, Our Boy Jack, citing greenness and lack of a sixth furlong as potential negatives. There has been some early nibbles for Tyre Giant Dot Com but the other one that interests me is Triggerlo. Mick Channon has supplied two placed horses in the past 5 years and this colt has shown some progression on the gallops, having done plenty of work.
