Comfortable Victory Predicted For Chelsea At Wigan

Wigan moved to within two points of safety with a win against West Brom last week and Roberto Martinez will have been delighted that his side could fight back from a goal down for just their third win of the season. It still looks as though it will be a long hard season for Wigan with goalscoring their particular problem, no side has scored less in the Premiership so far this campaign. Chelsea are looking more like their old selves and eight goals in their last three games means they are shwoing plenty of potency in attack, although they still look slightly vulnerable in defence at times.

Antolin Alcaraz could be missing from Wigan's defence, the Paraguayan only recently returned from suspension but now he has a rib injury and is considered a major doubt. If Alcaraz does miss out then Emmerson Boyce is expected to step in at the back. Chris Kirkland could return to the Wigan bench after overcoming a back injury that forced Doncaster to end his loan spell.

David Luiz is back from suspension after picking up five yellow cards this season and the defender could go straight back into the side with Branislav Ivanovic moving to right back. There are no new injury worries for Chelsea and long term absentee Michael Essien, who has been out all season with a knee injury, could be back in a month's time.

Wigan's form has improved recently, after a run of losses they have now only been beaten by Arsenal in their last four matches and have won two of those games. They were truely put in their place in that game against Arsenal though, losing 4-0, and it would be a surprise if a Chelsea side that beat Man City in their last match, can't go to the DW Stadium and pick up all three points.
