The betting price gap between Snow in London on Christmas day and No Snow in London on the 25th is the narrowest it has ever been as bookmaker’s odds compilers look out of their office windows and check the weather forecasts. At the beginning of December the price on offer with Bet 365 was 4/1 for the white stuff to fall on the 25th, it is now 11/8!
Betting on a White Christmas is hugely popular as the English and many other nationalities are obsessed with talk of the weather and romanticise about Christmases’ past when it always seemed to snow, in recent years it has been duller rather than snowier but in 2010 there seems to be a genuine chance that Londoners will be unwrapping presents and eating turkey surrounded by snow.
No snow to fall is 8/15 but on the drift (like the expected snow). The last time the English capital had any heavy snow on Christmas Day was years ago, but even if only a few flakes fall onto the roof of the London Weather Centre in the 24 hours of the 25th and the bookies confirm it you will get paid out.
