Colin Firth's performance as George VI in the critically acclaimed The Kings Speech look likely to give the English actor a first Academy Award. Having already won the Best Actor Golden Globe he looks in pole position for the Oscar and is a worthy favourite with the bookmakers.
James Franco being stuck on a rock by a boulder for hours (127 actually) in the Danny Boyle directed film is Firths main rival for the statue. The other Best Actor nominees are Jesse Eisenberg who may miss out for The Social Network with that film expected to win plenty of other Oscar statues, Hollywood royalty Jeff Bridges is nominated for playing Rooster Cogburn in the Coen brother’s remake of True Grit and the outsider is Spanish actor Javier Bardem for Biutiful.
