Bayern Munich out to extend advantage at Bundesliga summit against Augsburg

Augsburg gained promotion to the Bundesliga last season, but Jos Luhukay’s charges are finding life in the German top-flight tough, having accrued just eight points following 11 matches, and they could be in for a hiding when league leaders Bayern Munich visit the SGL Arena this afternoon.

The Bavarians have failed to win in their last three on the road overall, but they are flying high otherwise, currently two points in advance of champions Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table with a game in hand, and for every goal Die Roten have conceded in the Bundesliga so far this term, they’ve scored 10. The men in red have looked awesome domestically and in Europe since Jupp Heynckes took over at the Allianz Arena, and Mario Gomez has already scored 12 times in 11 league fixtures.

The imposing striker has been red-hot in the Champions League, too, netting a first-half hat-trick as Bayern saw off Napoli in their midweek group clash. It’s hard to envisage the home side’s defence being able to cope with Gomez, even though he will not have service from Arjen Robben, who is still injured, and Bastian Schweinsteiger who incurred a broken collarbone during the match with Napoli on Wednesday night.

This should be an emphatic victory for Bayern, and at 10-1 (generally available) I’d suggest backing the visitors to win 4-0. It could be more if Augsburg don’t have their wits about them in the early stages of the match, as the Bavarians are invariably quick off the blocks.

Recommendation: Bayern Munich to win 4-0 in the correct score market
