Amical is worth the risk

Tropical Bachelor took a while to get off the mark, landing a selling handicap by a wide margin at Ripon earlier this month, but that taste of victory was clearly sweet, as he ran out the decisive winner of a better race at York on Friday. He has much more on his plate off this revised mark, though, and I reckon an each-way punt on AMICAL RISKS could prove profitable.

The 6yo was a creditable third to Ghufa (winner again since) on the AW at Wolverhampton last time, prior to which he ran an even better race on turf when a staying-on fourth of 17 to Leslingtaylor over 1½m here in March. Joss Saville’s charge shapes as though this stiff stamina test will suit, while any further rain won’t inconvenience him.

Tillietudlem has realistic claims in his search of a hat-trick, having been raised a total of just 8lb for his last two victories, but he seems to be at his best on fast ground, while Simple Jim, Royal Premier and Silent Lucidity, all last-time-out winners, and the evergreen Red Wine, are all worthy of respect in an open handicap.

Recommendation: AMICAL RISKS
