The Best Picture Oscar looks a two film race between The Social Network and The Kings Speech. Considered to be the Blue Ribbon of all the statues, Academy members nominate and vote for their favourites.
The Social Network won best film at the Golden Globes and may just have the edge over its British rival. Directed by David Fincher it charts the birth of Facebook and the subsequent travails and successes of founder Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow college students. Well received by cinema goers and critics, it is a worthy favourite.
The Kings Speech directed by Tom Hooper struggled to find finance and has surprised movie insiders with its success but its nominations are fully justified. A great true story with moving performances from Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush as patient King George V1 and unqualified speech therapist Lionel Logue.
Eight other films are in the running but it would be a shock if one of the above films didn’t scoop the Best Film Oscar.
