Reigning Scudetto champions AC Milan lost little caste in defeat when going down 3-2 against Barcelona in their midweek Champions League match, and bid to continue their impressive domestic form when hosting Chievo at the Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday. Indeed, the Rossoneri have won five of their last six Serie A matches, and it’s little surprise that a home win is no bigger than 1.36 across the board.
Antonio Cassano, Mathieu Flamini and Gennaro Gattuso all remain on the easy list for the Milanese, but Massimiliano Allegri will be able to select Kevin-Prince Boateng who has served a ban, while Alexandre Pato and Philippe Mexes have both recovered from injuries. The visiting coach Domenico Di Carlo has quite a few absentees, including influential Peruvian midfielder Rinaldo Cruzado.
As things stand, AC Milan appear will on course to make a bold bid to retain the crown they finally wrested from city rivals Inter last term. At the time of writing, the Diavolo are fourth in the table, three points adrift of leaders Udinese, with a game in hand, and AC have scored more than any other side in the Italian top-flight this term, netting 23, five more than the second-highest scorers Juventus.
The Flying Donkeys, meanwhile, are one of the least potent sides in Serie A so far this season – only three teams have scored fewer goals – but, to their credit, they’ve won their last three and are presently a respectable ninth in the table.
Chievo should give a good account, but they’ve been beaten by Sunday’s illustrious rivals in their last five meetings, and I’m expecting that record to be no better after this match. Both 888sport and Blue Square go 2.20 about AC Milan winning to nil; given their solid defence and excellent offensive record, this rates a strong betting option to my mind.
